José Joaquín Castro, known as J.J. Castro, a great poet of infrared photography, has dedicated himself for more than 55 years to the world of photography, and captures, in a direct and magical way, luminosity in each of his images.
For J.J. Castro landscapes speak with their movements, sounds, managing to make each image captured by his 4.5” format camera vibrate in a surprising way, with more than 2500 negatives classified as originals, that represent the entire trajectory of his artistic life.

New York’s art scene goes to Rome.

The Big Apple’s frenetic rhythm is captured from diverse perspectives by 60 artists of New York’s cultural scene gathered in Rome in the collective show titled New York Minute, that will be shown from September 20th until November 1st  in the spaces of Rome’s Museum of Contemporary Art (MACRO), located in the traditional Testaccio district.

What is most important for you to transmit through your photographs?

I think that humanity, in all of its aspects, is the focus of my job as a photographer and photojournalist.  In my images, the protagonist or obvious element is usually a man, woman, or child.  I really believe in documentary photography, in the statement that the image can give as a powerful component in discovering the world in which we live.

The city and the mask, the Caracas of Aaron Sosa.

What does one think of when one thinks of Caracas?  When one is far away?  When one doesn’t know it?  When one is there, experiencing home and climate?  It is complex and useless to try to define this city, this geography trapped between mountains, this mixture of different bloods, languages, idiosyncracies, and cultures; this particular chaos that, like all chaos, also has its order.  Caracas, capital that pays homage to its geopolitical denomination and concentrates all types of capitals in a country that has been centralized for centuries:  the human, economic, and, thusly, existential.  Everything can be found here, everything coexists, everything joins and revolves.
