Jean-Luc Cramatte inaugurates the brand new gallery The Private Space with his exhibition “Poste Mon Amour”.
The exhibition “Poste Mon Amour” is a solemn portrayal of the state of Swiss post offices, an endangered species, as captured by the camera of photographer Jean-Luc Cramatte. The show takes place at The Private Space Gallery.
The exhibition is a selection of thirty photographs from a project that documents over 150 Swiss post offices, immortalizing their peculiar languishing in their daily routine. Examples of organization, order, strict procedures and administration standards, yet invaded by the personal objects of the clerks, marked by human presence.
Images that join public and private spheres, and silent testimonies to an activity that is coming to an end in many areas of rural Switzerland. What rules today is the Internet and mail has come to signify e-mail, as opposed to “snail mail”.
This project has the support of the Consulate General of Switzerland, the Swiss Foundation for Culture Pro Helvetia and the cantons of Jura and Friborg.
Jean-Luc Cramatte
Was born in 1959, in Porrentruy, Switzerland. He lives and works in Fribourg. He launched this project because of his interest for the post as national symbol, a common identifier that represents his country: “Poste Mon Amour is really a series of photographs on the Administration. Our life is governed by rules and regulations, forms sent by officials who spend half their life in the office”, says the photographer, adding: “It was not my intention to document the restructuring of Swiss postal services or denounce the closing of offices, I was confronted with this reality, a result of a change in our society”.
The Private Space Gallery
The Private Space Gallery (TPSG) is a new platform for the dissemination of art and contemporary design, focusing on works of authors that reflect private spheres, intimate and personal, but that also reflect the society that they comprise. TPSG is located at number 37, Roc Boronat, in a refurbished flour mill, a brick building built in 1900, in the industrial district Pouble Nou.
The physical exhibition space will be complemented by both a virtual, and intereactive space which can be self-managed by authors and groups. TPSG also engages in the creative processes and the publication of works and projects. It offers expert help in networking & Coaching, digital retouching and layout, printing and editing, graphic design and art direction. Our intention: to help young artists and creators enter the art world, or embark in the field of communication.
